Great Grandmaster Leung Ting: From Hong Kong Gymnasium to Global Wing Tsun Legacy

Since 1967, Great Grandmaster Leung Ting has spread Wing Tsun to over 60 countries worldwide. This article traces his martial arts journey, teaching philosophy, and lasting impact on the global Wing Tsun community.

From Student to Master

Great Grandmaster Leung Ting's Wing Tsun journey began in the 1960s when he became a student of the legendary Grandmaster Yip Man. With exceptional talent and relentless dedication, he rapidly mastered the essence of Wing Tsun and began teaching in 1967.

Within just a few years, he established the "Leung Ting Wing Tsun Gymnasium" and formally founded the "Wing Tsun Leung Ting Martial-Art Association" in 1973 — marking the beginning of a new era.

Taking Wing Tsun Global

Great Grandmaster Leung Ting was the first master to systematically promote Wing Tsun on the international stage. He personally travelled to Europe, Australia, and North America to teach, cultivating instructor teams from diverse cultural backgrounds. His scientific, systematic teaching approach transformed Wing Tsun from a traditionally oral-transmission martial art into a modern system with clear grading structures and standardised curricula.
